Elk Grove Youth Sports Foundation
Every Child Deserves a Chance to Play
PERFECTING NEW SKILLS. DEVELOPING TEAMWORK.
These are every child’s birthright.
The EGYSF program was spearheaded in 2007 by Elk Grove Mayor Gary Davis, who serves as the organization’s president. When it was brought to his attention that a parent could not afford the league fees that would enable her child to play soccer, he knew something had to be done. He enlisted the aid of a group of concerned residents, and together they formed a nonprofit organization to provide opportunities for young children to pursue their dreams.
“We want to help kids who can’t afford to play sports,” says Davis. “As citizens, it is our duty to help children learn new skills that will benefit them throughout their lives. The foundation provides an avenue for all children to play sports, and it gives them a true sense of belonging. They learn life-long lessons about working with others in a team setting, and it teaches them to look out for others, too.”
